Residential Building G1 in Göppingen
Demolition or renovation? Modern architecture or preservation of the existing building fabric? This was the problem the new owner of a house from the twenties was facing.
The building owner was determined to preserve the house with the flair of an urban villa. However, a comprehensive technical and energy-efficient renovation was indispensable. In addition, there were very concrete ideas and desires that were hardly compatible with the existing small-scale spatial structure: open spaces on all three levels, generous bathrooms and sanitary areas.
Gaus & Knödler Architekten along with the new owner found a solution that enabled a realization within the existing building. To meet the high demands of technical and energy standards, the windows, heating systems, electrical cables and insulation were completely renewed. By removing several walls on the ground floor, a space constellation with smooth transitions of the common areas kitchen, dining and living arose.
Upstairs the desired surface dimensions were realized for the bedrooms and bathrooms. The attic again presents itself as a large space in the loft style. In the interiors, attention was paid to historical detail: Thus, the staircase is based on the old wooden staircase, the original handles of the original doors and windows were used. Finally, the restoration preserved the outer shape and the character of the house in a convincing manner.
